Papua New Guinea's agricultural landscape is characterized by extreme biodiversity and high humidity. In the sector of food processing and plant breeding, the utilization of plant pollen has historically relied on natural pollination, which is often inconsistent due to the erratic weather patterns of the highlands and coastal regions.
Current processing capabilities for specialized bio-materials are limited. Most local farmers struggle with the preservation of white pollen, as the high ambient moisture leads to rapid degradation and fungal contamination, reducing the efficacy of crop hybridization efforts.
However, there is a growing demand for standardized, processed agricultural inputs. The shift toward industrial-scale processing of pollen is becoming essential for PNG to improve its export-grade fruit and vegetable quality and ensure food security across its rugged terrain.
